This video captures what has been many years in the making.
At B4NTR – Broadband for North Tyne and Redesdale, we are a locally run group of dedicated volunteers who have worked tirelessly to help bring full fibre broadband to our rural communities.
From the earliest conversations back in 2015, through countless meetings, miles walked, and support built across our villages — this has always been a true community-led effort.
What makes this achievement so special is the number of people involved. This simply wouldn’t have been possible without the support of local residents, landowners, our partners at B4RN, and fellow volunteers across the area.
“Since the first meetings about the creation of the Ray Windfarm Fund CIC with Vattenfall in 2015, there have been conversations about broadband and ensuring our rural communities are not left behind in today’s digital world.
A group of volunteers, B4NTR – Broadband for North Tyne and Redesdale worked tirelessly, gathering support among our communities and collaborating with B4RN – Broadband for the Rural North Ltd. This involved undertaking many talks, canvassing support, and walking miles. With the support of local investors and the Government Gigabit Voucher Scheme, a £100,000 grant was awarded to B4RN for the Barrasford project in late 2023. The project had the potential to connect approximately 580 properties, including businesses and community assets.
Businesses such as Debbie’s Sycamore Cottage & Glamping Pods now have hyperfast broadband, enabling efficient management of websites, bookings and social media, and allowing quick responses to enquiries. Debbie now has internet speeds her friends in Hexham and Newcastle are envious of!

The impact is already being felt. Local businesses, such as Debbie’s Sycamore Cottage & Glamping Pods, can now manage bookings, websites and social media quickly and efficiently — with internet speeds that rival nearby towns and cities.
We are also incredibly grateful to the Ray Windfarm Fund CIC, whose support has played a significant role in helping make this project a reality.
We’re proud of what’s been achieved together — and even more excited about what comes next.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey.
