We’re excited to share the latest progress from the B4NTR project! B4RN teams are currently hard at work in the Kirkwhelpington area, connecting the final homes in this section of the build. Already, well over 100 properties are online, with many more eligible to benefit as their current broadband deals come to an end.
It’s particularly rewarding to see B4RN fibre boxes appearing on homes far from the villages, bringing high-speed, reliable connectivity to households that previously had little or no broadband options. This represents a huge step forward in reducing digital isolation and ensuring every corner of North Tyne and Redesdale has access to modern digital services.
B4RN continues to press on with the final stages of the build and beyond, and the B4NTR team remains committed to supporting them every step of the way.
The Benefits So Far
Thanks to the dedication of B4NTR volunteers, and our partners, the project has already delivered significant positive change:
- Over 1,200 properties in the first 2 phases, with another 600 in progress for the last phase.
- Coverage across 14 rural parishes, spanning more than 250 km² — larger than Newcastle and Gateshead combined.
- Schools, churches, and village halls now benefit from free fibre high-speed connections.
- Warm hubs and community spaces within village Halls equipped with free B4RN fibre WiFi and battery backup, supporting local resilience during power outages and storms.
- Affordable social tariffs ensure broadband is accessible to all, helping reduce digital poverty.
- Digital inclusion and skills programs empower residents to use technology confidently and safely.
- Strong community engagement through surveys, meetings, and volunteer support, making sure local voices guide the project.
This progress shows just how transformative community-led broadband can be, particularly in some of England’s most rural and remote areas. The work continues, and every new connection brings our villages closer to a digitally inclusive future.
B4RN continue to work towards the final section of the build and beyond.
